Shut up and get out of my cube!

That’s how my week began. Things are a little better now but my major project is still unapproved. Monday is drop dead day – one way or another it will have to be finished.

Give me strength!

Being pregnant makes things 10 – 100x more irritating so my fuse has been a lot shorter and my reactions to unexpected problems much more intense.

Things that have annoyed me this week:

1. Super cheerful people who talk about the importance of wellness when you're so busy you can't even think about your exercise routine let alone stick to one.

2. People who wait until the last minute to give you the info you need, which keeps you from being able to do your job.

3. Being too pregnant for your regular clothes but not pregnant enough to keep your maternity jeans from sliding down your butt.

4. The whiney little message you get when your e-mail box is too full thus filling up your e-mail box with more useless e-mail.

5. The whiney little message you get that prevents you from sending an e-mail because your e-mail box is too full.

6. The last minute request.

7. The person who stresses the importance of completing the task but doesn’t offer to help.

8. The well intentioned person who tries to help but inadvertently creates more work for you.

Hmmmm….let’s see…did I miss anything? Oh, yeah…

9. The scary music they play during weather alerts. What do they want us to do – wet ourselves and curl up in a fetal position? Criminey!

It’s a boy!

We went to the ultrasound today. The “money shot" was unmistakable! IT’S A BOY!!! And even better, baby looks good – no worries! We are all very excited. Hubby is thrilled! No more "House of Estrogen." Little girl is very happy to know she will have a baby brother.

Now if we can just figure out a name…???

My give-a-damn is busted

I made an interesting discover this morning – crying jags trigger my gag reflex (stress induced and hormone fueled). I’ve been home all day today because little girl is sick. But that wasn’t the reason for my emotional meltdown. It was when I realized holding a bucket for a puking child was a step up from dealing with all the crap at work.

Remember what I said about meeting season? It never fails to disappoint. Last night I came home furious, then I felt defeated and cynical and then this morning I had a good cry. It’s official – my give-a-damn is busted and I don’t see it getting fixed anytime soon. I can’t go into a whole lot of detail but I’ll try to hit the highlights.

Round 1
Before I even had a chance to set pen to paper (maybe that was a blessing in disguise), it was announced the VP I usually write scripts for was moving to another position within the company. There were approximately 24 hours when I didn't know who I would be writing for, which for a scriptwriter is a teeny tiny but ever so crucial detail. You ever have fear pour over you like a bucket of ice water?

Well - I met with the new VP and was pleasantly surprised. He's nice, knows what he's talking about, knows what he wants to say and had already made plans to get me an outline in a timely fashion. These attributes are almost unheard of among VPs, especially the timely part. My apologies to any VPs who might be reading this. Okay, I lied. I really don't care if VPs are reading this as long as it isn't my VP.

I’m still waiting on his outlines but right now that’s the least of my problems.

Round 2
A co-worker gave two weeks notice yesterday. Can’t blame her – work is terrible for reasons I really can’t elaborate on here. Add to that a dash of deception, one surprise deadline, one very frustrating phone call and a general feeling of hopelessness and frustration and presto! – cue the waterworks.

Round 3?
This morning I tried to keep projects moving and e-mails answered, while racing up the stairs every 20 minutes or so whenever I heard darling daughter making gurgling sounds.

So here I script - working on the parts I have, making changes as they come in, answering stupid questions and providing new drafts to any schmoe who asks for one. My outlines should be ready soon so I can start on the next round. Two more weeks to get it all done and then maybe I'll be able to breathe again.

Pregnant women - stupid choices

What pregnancy has taught me.

No matter how good the salsa and chips taste, don't eat them!

Worst. Heartburn. Ever.

Nose news!

Woo-hoo! Would you believe my clown nose arrived in the mail today?!?!? I only just ordered it Friday night. I am very excited to try it on. It is a very cute little nose (T1). It is called a nose tip and it sits just on the end of my nose. Maybe I’ll post a picture of me wearing it some time.

Now I have something to take with me to clown class for show and tell tomorrow night!

Funny business

Started my new clown class, Advanced Clown Studies. It's a very serious name for a class that is designed to help you be a funnier clown. The goal of the class is to help us learn general funny business, magic, advanced balloons and some techniques for routines and skits. It's a small class - only four. Instructor Dude is teaching again.

I think it will be a fun class. I'm eager to learn some new clown stuff. My balloons could use some work, especially hats. Not good with hats. Not sure why - you'd think they would be easy. But alas - they are not.

Laughter is the best medicine
Went hospital clowning again and had a great time! All the patients were in really good moods, eager to laugh and very receptive. The nursing staff was in high spirits too. Sure makes clowning a lot easier when the audience is already warmed up.

The nose knows
I took a big step tonight. I ordered my clown nose. Up till now, I’ve been painting it on.

$15 for the nose, $7 for the adhesive and $40 for the adhesive dissolvent (just kidding about the dissolvent – you can use plain old baby oil).

Choosing a clown nose is not easy. You have to choose a nose (I would say pick a nose – but it’s too much of a cheap laugh) that not only fits your facial features, but also one that fits your clown’s character. And that is not easy especially when you are still trying to determine just exactly what kind of clown you want to be.

My inner clown
I like clowning and I like the clown character I've created. It is a great stress relief for me. My clown doesn't have to worry about bills or deadlines. She doesn't have to think about why the car is making a funny noise or keep track of a million different details between work and home. Housework? Forget it! Laundry? Nope. All she has to do is play and have fun and make other people smile. Everyone should find their inner clown!
