Final walkabout

Steve Irwin, "The Crocodile Hunter", was killed today after an encounter with a stingray.

'Crocodile Hunter' Steve Irwin Killed by Stingray on Great Barrier Reef

Darling Daughter: He died?

DMG: He had an accident. A stingray stung him.

Darling Daughter: But why did it sting him?

DMG: Because he was too close and the stingray was scared.

Darling Daughter: But why did he get too close?

DMG: I don't know, honey.

Darling Daughter: Are the Wiggles dead too?

(She remembers her Wiggle video, A Wiggly Safari, with Steve Irwin.)

DMG: No - the Wiggles are okay.

Darling Daughter: I don't want to swim with stingrays...

My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and children. Steve Irwin was a true original. Rest in peace.

That Wiggles video is the only way my youngest daughter knows Steve Irwin also. She's declared she wants to watch it again to remember Steve by.

Hey des_moines_girl! How is your daughter doing? Did you read the article about Steve's kids on Drudge today? Someone compared his death to the death of Superman. Steve Irwin was a "superhero" to so many kids (and to some adults too)! Ihope you daughter is doing okay! :)

Little girl is doing fine - thank you for asking! Kids are amazingly resilient at this age.

Discovery Channel is doing an all day Crocodile Hunter marathon on Sunday as a tribute to Steve Irwin. I thought that might be a nice way to spend the afternoon.

It is like the death of Superman -- a REAL Superman. Poor guy. I feel so bad for his family
